Let’s debunk some common social media myths…

SOCIAL MEDIA MYTHS

We’re putting on our very best detective hats to bust some of the most common social media myths floating around. And yes, there’s quite a few.

So just remember to always listen to your resident social media experts (that’s us!) who spend most of our time with our noses buried deep in the feed. Don’t be fooled by the random dude on TikTok claiming he snagged 1 million trillion followers in, like, 5 days. Because he defs didn’t. Just keep scrolling, pleaseeeeee.

AI Will Take Over Marketing Jobs 🤖

They won’t! They enhance the efficiency of our jobs, but they will not replace us, ze Marketers.
AI doesn’t have human creativity or emotional intelligence that users crave. Plus, AI recognises AI! Many platforms – both social and search – will downgrade AI created content in favour of uniquely created human content. AI is a tool and should not everrrr ‘replace’ the process. Us, ze humans shall always win.

More Followers = More Success? 📈

It’s about the numbers that convert. We always ask our clients – would you like 10,000 followers with only 100 that purchase or 500 followers where they are all customers??
Sure, having a good amount of followers can boost your brand’s visibility, but engagement is what really drives growth.
You want quality followers who actively engage with your content – whether it’s through likes, shares, or comments – because that interaction is more likely to translate into sales. 🤑

The More Hashtags The Better #️⃣

As social media moves to operate more like SEO, it’s better to use your ‘hashtag’ terms in the body of your copy (or voice in video). Using your industry and brand related key words in this way is much more successful than hashtags.
Also – using too many can appear spammy and actually harm your engagement.

Paid Media = Success 💬

Organic content is the foundation on which your paid advertising is built. Say it with us now: Organic content is the foundation on which your paid advertising is built.
That’s the secret to a well-rounded strategy, friends. Curate your content to see what  resonates with your audience, and then use that content as the basis of your paid content strategy. Simples*insert meerkat sound*.

You Need to be on Every Social Media Platform to Succeed 💬

Quality over quantity. Producing quality content where your target audience is the most engaged is far more effective. That said, be in as many places as you can be without spreading yourself too thin. On some platforms, you can replicate your content (use the same piece on multiple platforms) – just make sure you put the most energy into your owned real estate (like an EDM) and the primary platforms where your audience lives.

Social Media Marketing is FREE💲

Although creating social accounts is free, creating effective and strategic social media marketing is not! A well-rounded, cohesive social strategy involves investment in quality content creation and paid advertising.
It’s a pay-to-play industry after all, and the reality is that simply having a presence on social media isn’t enough. You gotta stand out in that crowded digital landscape, and producing high-quality content that resonates with your audience is a great start.

Consistent Posting Doesn’t Matter 📲

Ah, yes. Consistent posting DOES matter – but, it’s all about striking the right balance to keep your followers engaged without overwhelming them.
Think of it like creating a great playlist: keep the bangers coming, but don’t drown the audience in the back-to-back bangers. Aim to create memorable posts that spark a damn good convo – preferably over a damn good glass of vino.

You Should Publish the Same Content Across Every Platform 📸

Each platform has it’s own unique features and audience expectations, so what works on one, may not work as effectively on the other (think Facebook vs. TikTok). While some content can easily translates across platforms – like Instagram and Facebook, depending on the topic, and sometimes even LinkedIn, depending on the topic—others have distinct nuances. TikTok, for example, demands a tailored approach for maximum impact.
